ADHD
I am Neuro-diverse. I was diagnosed with ADHD in adulthood. This has led to me re-evaluating a lot of my experiences. I believe that this reflection on the past self and the stories that emerged from my reflections have revealed to me how I have been affected, in my thoughts, emotions and my actions navigating a world having to mask or trying to be “normal”. I have learnt to understand that this can take its toll on Mental Health outcomes
Emotional states often dictate our behaviour and our outcomes in terms of health and wellbeing. For people who are “less than typical” in some way…we learn how to mask to navigate the world in our own unique ways. So I know how it feels to present as “fine”, to operate like everything is “okay”. To “man up” and “get on with it”. I also know that this can lead to mental ill health.
Having trained as a Psychotherapist I bring some of this lived experience and learning into my practice.
My integrative methods include fostering acknowledgement of ADHD and working at externalising its influence. Analysing the issues it causes the sufferer and their loved ones with compassion and a sense of healthy detachment, we are able to look at the condition without condemning the person. I continue to learn more about the condition all the time and take particular pleasure working with fellow Neuro-diverse (or as one client recently put it “Neuro-spicy”) people.
My name is Brendan Davies. I believe in the transformative power of talking therapies for individuals facing crises or tough times. Life’s challenges can lead to mental and emotional pain, and I know from my own experiences that therapeutic relationships can help alleviate that suffering.
I focus on the stories we tell ourselves and how various societal influences—like family dynamics, culture, and belief systems—shape our lives. To build a meaningful life, we need to reflect on our past and understand what we can change and what we can’t.
We all have our own stories to share, as we navigate the larger narratives around us. These insights guide my approach as a counsellor. I am an Integrative counsellor, combining systemic, narrative, and psychodynamic methods with solution-focused and person-centred techniques. My goal is to help clients find meaning, direction, and ultimately, a brighter future.
